Busy times since my last post. District Convention at Sandwell was an excellently organised by Sandwell Lions Club and well chaired by District Governor Ian. I had a fairly low key role, helping out with the audio visuals and, as stated in my last post, delivering the invocation and in memorium.
In preparation for my year as National Chairman I visited the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to talk about WWI centenary events, ITV to talk about Lions Clubs involvement and had lunch in Brixton Prison as guest of the Young Gamblers Educational Trust who are interested in some of our Lifeskills materials.
A lot of my focus has been on the National (Multiple District) Convention which was held in Birmingham between 8 and 10 May. All in all it went very well but numbers were down. A big thanks goes to all the members of my committee and additional volunteers who made it run smoothly. Especially so as I was also involved in attending the Council of Governors meeting part of which I chaired.
Sunday morning saw the introduction of next year’s District Governors and of me as their chairman. I made a five minute address to convention before handing to the team to present their vision for the future of Lions.
On top of this there have been district and club meetings and events to attend including a very successful presentation night and well supported litter pick. I have also been busy putting together an A to Z of Lions via this site and publicising it a letter at a time via social media.
