My Club has been in existence since 1977 when it was formed in Marston Green Maternity Hospital. Only one of the original founders is still a member but the club is still going strong.
We currently have 18 members and carry out a wide range of service, fund raising and social activities. Over the next couple of weeks we will be doing a litter pick in Marston Green and joining together with four other clubs to run a fund raising concert in aid of the Birmingham Crisis Centre and Solihull Young Carers. At the end of the month some members are getting together for a Royal Wedding Party.
Our main fund raising activities are our Christmas Sleigh, pictured here last Christmas, and our Annual Charity Ball. The 13th Charity Ball was held last month and raised £1,800 for St Basil’s, a charity working with young homeless people.
During the summer we go to a number of fetes and carnivals where we raise money face painting, running a Disney tombola and operating pick-a-key and roll-a-dice games. In preparation for this our fund raising chairman, Jonathan, and I spent part of Saturday morning checking inventory at our garage and putting together one of our new gazebos. Unfortunately the second gazebo had been damaged and needs to be returned to the manufacturer.
