Once again I must apologise for the gap between blogs. Having got out of the habit whilst on holiday it’s been a bit of a struggle getting back into the swing of things.
Last time I signed off just before attending Shakespeare Lions’ charter anniversary dinner. It was a great evening and started well by introducing a new power of the lions’ badge. All guests were given a printed lions’ logo which entitled the bearer to a pint of ale from the bar.
I was there as the official representative of Lions Clubs International to respond to the toast to LCI. In previous charters this has been proposed by the club president giving the LCI speaker an opportunity to hear up to date information about the club to use in their response. Shakespeare Lions do it slightly differently with the toast being proposed by the MC and the LCI speaker being first up. This caught me a bit on the hop but fortunately I had done some research on their website and had studied the menu so that I knew the names of the other guests of honour and could mention some of the club’s achievements.
I would like to conclude this part by thanking Shakespeare Lions for an entertaining night and particularly my fellow top table guests who were really good company.
Since then my lions’ activities have included a session with Joy explaining more of the wonders of supporting the district’s web site, a fund-raising meeting to finalise the planning for Christmas and a meeting of the Host Committee for the Multiple District convention in Birmingham next year.
The latter meeting took place at the venue for the convention, The Hilton Metropole Hotel, and gave us all an opportunity to see the rooms we will be using. The main room seemed very large but then again we are expecting 600+ people at the host night on the Friday and 750+ at the banquet and ball. Planning is going well and it promises to be an excellent event.
Over the next few days I will be attending meetings of the district membership committee, Finance and Administration and Long Range Planning as well as another session with Joy. I will report on these in my next blog. In the meantime if you would like me to cover any particular Lions related topic or if you have questions about Lions please post comments in this blog.
