So I started the year with every intention of providing regular updates to the blog but suddenly it’s February and it’s been nearly a month since my last post.
I‘ve not been idle during this time I just keep forgetting to blog about it. Must be an age thing. So what have I been up to?
January has been a good mixture of business and social activities as far as Lions is concerned. On the business front, as well as my Club’s monthly business meeting, I attended the full set of meetings prior to February’s cabinet meeting. This comprised
- Long Range Planning where we discussed the addition of sections on Leadership and Communications as well as some ideas for Region and Zone chairmen and cabinet structure
- Finance and Administration
- Communications and PR where we discussed getting all our clubs on the web and what we could do to get publicity for Lions by helping marshall the Olympic torch relay
- Membership where news was encouraging of new members and of planned membership activities
In addition I attended the MD Convention committee meeting and also completed the first of 15 planned club visits for this half-year. This visit was to Rugby Rokeby Lions Club and I was treated to a lively meeting and, following discussions with their webmaster, have started them on the way to an e-clubhouse website. My visits are targeting clubs without a web site or, as is the case with Rugby, where existing web sites have fallen into disrepair.
The social side of Lions has been equally busy starting at the beginning of January with a club visit to Robin Hood, a pantomime written and starring Malcolm Stent at the Solihull Arts Centre (Oh yes we did). Malcolm is an honorary Lion with Balsall Common Lions Club and our PR officer sent a note backstage which he read in full thanking the residents of Marston Green and Chelmsley Wood for their support over Christmas. Well done Lin!
On 14th January Christine and I met up with most of my fellow 2nd Vice District Governors for a night out in Warwick. This proved an excellent opportunity to get to know each other a little better and everybody seemed to enjoy it. It is traditional for each council of governors to have a reunion every year and, with me having organised this one, I shouldn’t have to arrange another until 2025.
Finally at the end of January we had a club weekend away with
17 Lions, friends and family staying in 3 cabins in the Forest of Dean. This was a fabulous weekend with excellent food and drink and a party with silly games each of the three nights with each cabin taking turns to host.
As we moved into February the planned cabinet meeting has had to be postponed due to inclement weather. I have more club visits planned, my own club meeting, our club Christmas dinner and finalising the details for MD convention host night. Hopefully I will be more organised as far as blogging these events is concerned.
