I really need to be more diligent in writing this blog but I seem to be so busy both with Lions stuff and work. This will be a short post covering what I’ve been doing since our District Convention
The DG’s team (Neil, Paul, me and now Ian) met shortly after convention and generally agreed that convention had included some subtle shifts away from the over formal way it’s been done in the past. More changes are planned for next year and the year after. Paul is well advanced in putting together his cabinet for next year and one of the DG Team’s focuses is to ensure consistency from one year to the next and a smooth transition.
I have continued on my visits to clubs covering Rushden (120 mile round trip to the middle of nowhere), Rowell (actually Rothwell, Northants but there’s already a Rothwell club in Yorkshire) and Sutton Coldfield and Erdington. All have had e-clubhouse sites created for them and should be adding their own content. This leaves just two clubs in the District without a website, Birmingham Edgbaston and Birmingham Handsworth Ladies.
MD convention preparation is going well. I have been making signs for each district to parade in with olympic style at the host night as well as putting together video to play during dinner and as an introduction to Special Olympics Great Britain who will be giving a demonstration on the night. We have a final meeting this coming Friday and then that’s it.
With my club I have helped with a litter pick in Marston Green and yesterday I was out with Sutton Coldfield and Erdington Lions delivering yellow cards for their latest membership drive.
On the work front it has also been busy in my new role as Software Architect, working on new processes for our development team, trying to resolve some performance issues with one of our systems and attending three days of training in London.
Coming up I will be running the tote at a zone race night, have a district membership meeting, will be attending training for incoming zone and region chairmen, have another DG team meeting, the convention meeting mentioned above, a club visit to Coventry Godiva Lions and MD convention itself 4 – 6 May. Hopefully I’ll be able to tell you all about it after that.
