Well it’s finally happened. On 23rd March I was elected by the delegates at District 105M’s convention to be their District Governor for 2013-14. Congratulations must also go to my 1st and 2nd Vice District Governors for next year, Ian and Heather. Commiseration to the other 2nd VDG candidate, Anita, although I’m sure it’s only a postponement of her election.
I am now heavily involved in the forming of my cabinet and this is still proving difficult.
At convention I announced my theme for next year, “Making our mark through Service”. I want Lions in the district and beyond to make their mark:
- On those in need through the service they give
- On their communities by establishing some permanent reminder of their work
- On the world through support for Lions’ International projects large and small
- On each other through the fun and fellowship of belonging to Lions Clubs International
- On neighbouring clubs by sharing ideas and providing assistance to weaker clubs
- On the public by publicising what we do and being seen doing it.
It is traditional for the District Governor’s partner to run a project for the year and this year Christine is looking to work with a small charity called Me and Dee. More details of this will be published later but I have decided to support the project by running a 10-15K race in each of the nine zones within the district culminating in the Great Midlands Fun Run in June 2014. I am already entered into the GMFR for June 2013 but running to raise money for my Club. If you would like to sponsor me you can do so at http://mydonate.bt.com/events/gmfr2013/96663.
April is a month of meetings, training sessions and the Multiple District Convention in Torquay so more on that at the end of the month.
